Douglas Kahn

Douglas Kahn is an Australian writer, historian, and theoretician of the arts, with emphases on energies and sound from modernism to the present, experimental music, media arts, early computation, and environmental justice. He studied composition with Alvin Lucier, has a background in art history and science and technology studies, and is recognized as one of the early proponents of sound studies. Books include Earth Sound Earth Signal: Energies and Earth Magnitude in the Arts (2013), Noise Water Meat: A History of Sound in the Arts (1999), and Energies in the Arts (2019).
