Lea Wierød Borčak is Senior Researcher at the School of Culture and Society, Aarhus University, and Director of the Unit for Song Studies. Her research explores singing and song culture across diverse contexts, including Danish communal singing, education, refugee communities, and hymnology. She combines methods ranging from surveys and quantitative studies to anthropological fieldwork and intermedial song analysis. Borčak leads the largest Danish research project to date on communal singing, supported by the Carlsberg Foundation: A Singing Society? Communal Singing in Denmark and the Limits of Social Inclusion (the ComSing project). Her work highlights how singing both unites and excludes.
