Marie Koldkjær Højlund

Marie Højlund is a composer, sound artist and associate professor in Sound Studies at Aarhus University. She researches sonic citizenship in a variety of contexts with a practice-based approach. Her core interest is sheltered environments, such as the hospital, where the boundaries between the private and the public, the individual and the community, are blurred, and where questions of privilege are unraveled – who has the right to raise their voice, to be heard? How do we harmonize through voting practices? As a composer, she has composed for theater, television and released several albums. In 2023, she received the prestigious Carl Nielsen Composers' Award and the Anne Marie Carl-Nielsens Prize.
