Den første af Ito Takashis tre kortfilm på programmet, Zone, blændede op på skærmen i skøn 80’er-opløsning med hvide, sløve skyer på en blå himmel. En gåtur gennem en park. Til disse rolige scener tilføjede Sonne approksimationer af reallyde – vindens hvisken i træerne, insekternes summen i buskadset. Meditative, langhalede synthpassager forstærkede følelsen af fuldstændig fred. Den afslappede atmosfære blev dog hurtigt afløst af en tiltagende drømmelogisk billedside, mesterligt understøttet af en tidssvarende, frenetisk, til tider næsten horror-agtige synth.

Efter kun 13 minutter var drømmen-tangerende-til-mareridt ovre, men før den næste kortfilm kunne begynde, lod Sonne med en kort, smuk og stemningsfuld sang publikum tage et par tiltrængte dybe åndedrag. Dernæst fik den repetitive og labyrintiske film Spacy sin epileptiske energi højnet af støt tiltagende, energiske og blødt stikkende synths, mens den M. C. Escher-agtige, trappeopgangsmuterende Drill efter endnu et mellemstykke blev trakteret med genklingende motiver, der til sidst sammen med filmen brød op og forsvandt ned i et sort hul.

Hele forestillingen igennem udviste Sonne en måske intuitiv sans for, hvordan hun med sin lyd kunne højne de indtryk, billedsiden afgav. Et gensyn med disse film uden hendes underliggende musik vil uden tvivl føles som en klar nedgradering. Men særligt hendes mellemstykke-hvilepauser var sande genistreger, der glimrede i lige så høj grad som selve soundtracket.

Pablo Fernández is a Spanish musician and the new Head of Classical Music at the Royal Academy of Music, Aarhus/Aalborg. For many years, he was principal tuba player with the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra and has taught at higher music education institutions in Spain and Denmark. He is also active as a conductor, soloist, guest lecturer and jury member at international competitions. Fernández has extensive experience in the management and development of music projects, festivals and international collaborations. He has lived in Aarhus since 2014 and has been affiliated with the Royal Academy of Music since 2021.

Nightmaries blend saws, guitars and voices into a dark-country, no-wave, cowboy-doom nightmare. Fenja wrote her first song at the age of twelve – about a polar bear dying due to climate change – and themes of existentialism, nature, and her own sensitive nature came to define the lyrics and sound she has since developed.
